“Space is sacred, necessary, and needed if the embers of the heart are to be kept alive & aglow.” - Chani Nicholas

Welcome to Day 6! Call on your Council: “Building (or refreshing) your business altar”

Now today’s a very special day. While you have so many things to do as a business owner who’s building an empire, one of things I’ve found that’s imperative to making your business last for the long-haul is tending to your own personal practices.

One of them you can use is building an altar for your business.

I have found altars and sacred spaces to be pivotal in my own business’s success and a way to keep me grounded around my intentions for my business, my mission, and connected to the legacy I am standing on.

Let’s speak more about this practice.

Today’s LEVEL UP Coaching

An altar is a beautiful way of facilitating the process of connecting deeply to your company and its purpose in this world.

Altars are a reserved, special place.

They are a sacred space.

They remind us of what’s important to us.

They bring us home to ourselves.

Everywhere I am you’ll find an altar. In fact, I have 3 in my home at all times (sometimes more).  I have one for my personal practice (which included my business), one for my ancestors, and one for the spiritual work I do for clients.

Having a business altar can help you in connecting to the deeper meaning behind the work you’re doing. It can also be a space you can come to when you want to get grounded in moments when you’re feeling like fears or worries are taking root.

It doesn’t matter whether you are an atheist, a christian, practice another religion, or only call yourself spiritual. Altars are spiritual in nature but they don’t have to be.

When it comes to a business altar you can make it a space of grounding and help you to set the stage to focus on your goals and your visions for your empire.

They can also be simple or as elaborate as you desire. It doesn’t have to be fancy. You do not have to “do the most” with your altar space.

Personally, I need my altars to help me create mental space so they tend to be more on the simple side. I think that your altar should be an extension and an expression of you.

Now if you have a business altar, amazing. Your practice for today will be to recharge it.

Your LEVEL UP Homework: Start an Altar or recharge it.

Have some fun with this. This is a space to honor your business and your desires for it.

Starting an altar

  • You can start with a small table, bookshelf ledge, a counter top, nightstand or any flat surface. If you are using a shared surface (like a dresser), just make sure the area where you are creating your altar is clear.
  • Add momentos, symbols of your power, freedom, or your company’s values. You could add items that connect you to the greater vision, your mission, your life, your desired  lifestyle, or where you want to go in your career.
  • A good practice is adding a box with your business intentions on the altar.
  • You can also add elements of the Earth (candles, soil, a bowl of water, a crystal) or things that connect you to your senses (fragrance, flowers, etc). You can have symbols or words like: abundance, expansion, connection, anything else you want your business to reflect, or the results you want to see in it.
  • I don’t recommend you add your ancestors to your business altar. Give them their separate space and make sure their altar is not in your bedroom.
  • Sit your altar somewhere it won’t be disturbed by pets or small children if you can. Especially if you plan to add candles.
  • The overall goal is for your altar to inspire you and make you feel excited about what’s next for you and your company. Your dreams should be a part of this.

Recharging your altar

Just like any other sacred space, altars need to be cleaned, nurtured, and given reverence. Recharging your altar should be a regular part of your personal practice as it’s a way of showing yourself that anything dedicated to you deserves honor.

  • Take a look at everything on your altar - Does it still inspire you? Do you still feel connected to what’s there? If not, remove those things that you may not feel connected to anymore.
  • Clean everything on your altars. Make sure it’s not dusty or crusty!
  • Sit with your altar and see if anything new comes to mind to place on it. Add those items.
  • Bless the entire space again. If you look at it and you feel pleasure and/or other feel good emotions, it’s ready.
